Lamex Stadium, Stevenage

Main Sport: Football

As a football fan, as much as I love watching my own team, just taking in any match is a good time out for me. Pre-kids, knocking off as many of the 92 was a target for me but that had fallen by the wayside in recent years. However, when the opportunity came to visit Broadhall Way (or the Lamex Stadium to give its sponsored name) in Stevenage for the first time, I jumped to take it.

It was half term which meant the kids were less active so I floated the idea to my son of going to a random match and he was very eager. After a quick review we settled in a trip to Stevenage Vs Port Vale, not the most glamorous tie but that wasn’t the point!

Getting to the ground was very easy by car. Directly across the road is free parking for around 500 cars. We arrived about an hour before kick off and despite an attendance of only 2,715 on the night it was starting to fill so might be a bit busier on a “bigger” match day. What i was impressed with was that despite no formal marshalling, the car park emptied quickly after the match and got us on our way home.

As a smaller ground, it is a more “basic” matchday experience with some burger vans in the corner and no bars inside the ground as you can’t drink within sight of the pitch but that added to the feel.

This random trip took me up to 21 current grounds of the 92 and was an enjoyable night out with my son that I hope to replicate at other random grounds in the future
