Headingley Cricket Ground, Leeds

Capacity: 18,350

Main Sport: Cricket

Headingley must be one of the strangest grounds in the country. The rugby and cricket grounds are side by side with a joining stand between them. I’d been to the rugby stadium many years ago and had excited through the cricket ground. But, it was only in 2022 I went for a match on the cricket side for the first time.

We have a lot of family in and around Leeds. Therefore the couple of times we have been we have driven as, if you get there early enough, there is free parking available on many of the local streets. Headingley itself has some great bars and restaurants but we haven’t started a trip there yet.

A cricket ground was established in Headingley all the way back in 1890 and it has been the permanent home of Yorkshire Cricket Club since 1903. The ground has witnessed many great games over the years, including the memorable 3rd Ashes Test in 2019.

The couple of times I have been here have been for matches in The Hundred. The first time we visited we were in the East Stand but in my second visit we were sat in the legendary Western Terrace. On the first it was scorching hit and we were always looking for shelter. In the second it kept raining and we were always looking for shelter!

On both visits the range of food and drink around the ground has been very good and the shop is of a decent size. The matches I have seen here haven’t been as memorable as some others but I have always enjoyed it and we’re always on the lookout for another date to get there.

Whenever we have gone, having parked nearby, getting away has been surprisingly easy which is always a good end to the experience.
