Since getting into parkrun, I have really enjoyed the tourism element. A third of my runs have come away from home. However, one thing I hadn’t done was return to do any a second time.
With my marathon training plan calling for a parkrun or similar, and being away from home, today gave that chance. I’d agreed to meet up with my brother so we settled on Rothwell. It was a first visit for him but as it’s just down the road from my sister in laws it was ideal. I’d last run this course in April with my two brother in laws and was looking forward to improving. I’d heard of p-index before and finally doing a 2nd course lifted this up to 2!
Being the last run before Christmas, there were plenty in fancy dress, although I was team Bah Humbug in normal kit. It did give an immediate target to me and my brother, don’t get beaten by the sprout!
After a festive briefing it was time to head off. The only downside of Rothwell is a very narrow start with a big field. Add in people dressed as giant presents and it was a bit chaotic! It did mean I at least didn’t head out too fast as I started to pick my way through the field. Thankfully at around 1km I got past the sprout which was much faster than I had expected!
Last time I had run this course the slight hill had done for me. After last weeks hilly Travellers 6, it was easy this time round.
After 2.5 laps I headed to the line and was quite pleased with a time 22:12 which was about 30s faster than April. Back home Pocket was cancelled due to flooding and I really hope it dries out a bit before New Years Day.
Some random stats:
- 2nd run at Rothwell (33rd in total)
- P-index increased to 2
- Knocked 12 off of Stopwatch Bingo
