This weekend we are away with some of my wife’s friends and their families. Obviously as a parkrun addict I had checked out the local area on the Tourist Tool. However, the nearest run felt a bit too far to go and not impact on other plans.

Then as we all arrived on Friday night it became apparent another one of the group was also a parkrun addict. I obviously had my running kit with me so parkrun was now on!

We headed across the beautiful peaks to get to Bakewell. On arrival I was impressed to find a field of free parking and what looked to be a monster turnout. I think a couple of local clubs had come en masse so as tourists we were actually in the majority!

Given how hilly the area is, the course was surprisingly flat as you snake along an old disused railway. This was the second out and back along an old line I’d done in recent months after Penistone.

The first km was a bit busy as we settled in to the run but I had been impressed by the timing separation done at the start to ease this. It was then a nice steady out. I knew there was a slight slope which meant way home was even easier!

Crossing the line in 21.38 I was just outside my overall parkrun PB but was happy given less than 12hrs ago I wasn’t even planning on a run!

As we have everyone back at the holiday cottage we didn’t stick around for coffee but I was impressed with how well organised the event was and it was another enjoyable start to the day!
